Level 1 Trail Guide

The documents below will be uploaded very soon, please be patient as we edit and finalize everything. Generally this course is for first time guides for guiding groups on groomed trails only with emphasis on 2-person trail sled use & travel under 40km/hr, not in avalanche terrain.

L1 Trail Guide PREREQUISITES:

To obtain your certification for the level 1 CMBGA Trail Guide you must have a minimum of a 40 hour first aid certification.


Level 2 Assistant Guide

Training Module

Date: January 5-11 2026

Location: classroom : Unit 3109 1240 Powerhouse rd, Revelstoke BC (does not include lodging, food or trail passes)

Exam Module

Date: April 16-21 2026

Location: Mustang Powder Cat Ski Lodge (Malakwa BC)

Price: $3778.71 (includes both training and exam modules & your 2026 CMBGA membership) + $1250.00 + GST paid to Mustang Powder for lodging & food of the exam portion 1 month prior to exam.

CMGBA L2 GUIDE PACK LIST

CANCELLATION POLICY

Deadline to Register: December 23 2025. Registrants will be reviewed on a first come first served basis and accepted based on eligibility criteria. You will be notified by email.

L2 Assistant Guide PREREQUISITES:

CAA Level 1 Operations, 80-hour first aid 

Participants must submit a resume of experience.

Participants must have significant personal winter mountain travel expertise in complex terrain.

Recommended technical and guiding skills. These skills will be taught on the January training course and assessed in April on the exam. Previous experience and competence will accelerate development up to the exam standard.  

Technical skills: ropework (rappel, ascend a rope, raise a victim using mechanical advantage), map and compass navigation.

Leadership: Working for a guiding operation, for one season or 30 days working with guests.


Level 3 Lead Guide

OPTIONAL Training Module

Exam

Date: April 16-21 2026

Location: Mustang Powder Cat Ski Lodge

Price: $2222.25 (includes exam, your 2025 CMBGA membership, food & lodging at Mustang Powder Lodge). To receive subsidized financial support for your course/exam you or your employer maybe eligible for help through the BC Employer Training Grant. Please click HERE for more information on this.

Full payment of $2222.25 (for exam only option) or $3778.71 (for training & exam option) must be paid to CMBGA upon acceptance of your registration + $1250.00 + GST must be paid to Mustang Powder for lodging & food of the exam portion 1 month prior to exam

L3 Lead Guide PREREQUISITES:

CAA Level 2 Operations, 80-hour first aid 

Participants must submit a resume of experience.

Participants must have significant personal winter mountain travel expertise in complex terrain. They should already be working for a guiding operation, with a minimum of two seasons and 100 days working with guests. 

Technical skills should include – ropework (rappel, ascend a rope, raise a victim using mechanical advantage), map and compass navigation.
